Playing Gormball with the Aisha

Robert Beveridge

What matters is not
the twist of waist, roll
of the ball off your fingers
as you pass it to Kevin.

What matters is not technique,
or odds, or field size,
or even whether the Grundo
is cheating. No,

what matters is the time
you hold the ball
before you throw, the curl
of your fingers, nick
of nails into rubber, slosh
of liquid inside,
the final burst of elimination—
and then, round two.
