Churches

Seth Jani

This day is a church.
Coming and going.
Light hatching overhead.
Let the tiny sacredness
Be birdlike and sing.
Let the fierce trials
Of summer end.
By the water the sun’s
Flashpan cinder burns.
By the forest a beetle
The size of Texas
Burrows under stone.
We must worship while we can.
Delight in the blue duration of the day.
Seek traces of the wind.
Learn the culture of animals.
We must walk along dark
Antiquated roads
And speak with the old wayside shamans.
Breathe the tricks of dreaming
While the heart still knows of God.
